Frequently asked question
Tan Tan Ramen is a Japanese noodle dish that is inspired by the Chinese Dan Dan noodles. It's known for its spicy and nutty flavor, usually derived from sesame paste and chili oil mixed into a meat-based broth. It's often topped with minced pork, scallions, and sometimes spicy bean sprouts or bok choy for a delightful mix of textures and tastes.
Shio ramen is one of the classic flavours of Japanese ramen, distinguished by its clear, light broth. The word "shio" translates to "salt/savoury". The Plant Based Workshop has taken this classic flavour and added a bold garlic accent to create a bowlful of comfort and soul.
The main difference is the flavor profile. Traditional ramen focuses on a clear or milky broth that's rich in umami and often less spicy. Tan Tan Ramen, on the other hand, has a bold, nutty, and spicy broth. Additionally, while traditional ramen might use a variety of meat-based broths, Tan Tan Ramen typically features a sesame-based broth with a chili oil kick.
Our Tan Tan broth is umami rich and with a MILD spice. You can always add chilies, or hot sauce to turn up the heat. On the other hand, just add 3/4 of the broth packet if you're concerned it may be too spicy. At The Plant Based Workshop, our team loves adding their favourite milk instead of the hot water to the broth, making it creamy and dense soup base.
